BURNING PERMITS

1.                  There is an open burning ban for the whole State of Nebraska.

2.                  You must have an Open Burning Permit for any kind of open air burning other than that in an approved commercial incinerator.

3.                  The local fire chief or his designee may waive the open burning ban with an Open Burning Permit.

4.                  You may only burn straw, hay, leaves, brush or untreated lumber with a burning permit.

5.                  If burning anything other than the above named items, you must also get a permit from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality and have that before you will get a permit from the fire chief.

6.                  You may only burn between 7:00 AM and 8:00 PM, without special permission from the fire chief.

7.                  You can’t burn if the wind is blowing at such a rate that it would carry ashes or sparks to an adjoining property or near a building.

8.                  You can’t burn if the smoke from your fire would impinge on the property or rights of others.

9.                  You can’t burn within twenty (20) feet of any building.

10.              You must attend the fire at all times while it is burning and if you leave, you must extinguish the fire.

11.              You must take every precaution possible to keep the fire from spreading.  This could include clearing a space around the fire, having a garden hose or other water supply handy and having a shovel or rake with in easy reach.
